Pat G. Kaplan, a realtor from Portland, Oregon, is the 2004 Vice President and Liaison to Committees of the National Association of Realtors®. NAR, The Voice for Real Estate®, is America’s largest trade association, representing more than 950,000 members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
Kaplan, a Realtor® for 25 years, is broker-owner of Kaplan Real Estate Group, specializing in residential real estate, consulting and education offerings. She holds the professional designations of Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI), Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB), Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS), and e-PRO. Kaplan is a member of the Council of Real Estate Brokerage Managers and the Women’s Council of REALTORS .
Kaplan served as Treasurer for NAR for three years (2001,2002,2003) and chair of the association’s Finance Committee. In 2004, Kaplan served on NAR’s Leadership Team as Vice President of Committees. She has also served as President of the REALTOR Relief Foundation since its inception, which funded more than $8 million to victims’ families of the 9-11 tragedy. In addition, Kaplan served as Liaison to the NAR President in the International areas of NAR and the Association Executive committees. Pat also was distinguished to serve as NAR’s Smart Growth spokesperson for four years.
Kaplan has served on the International Real Property Foundation Board of Directors since 2000 and currently serves as Treasurer.
In 1999, Kaplan was a Regional Vice President for NAR for the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. She has served on NAR’s Board of Directors since 1993. She was vice chair of the association’s Finance Committee from 1995 through 1998, and has participated in a variety of committees, including Risk Reduction, State & Municipal, Legislative, Strategic Planning and Communications.
Kaplan is an active participant in all broker circles and a popular speaker at state, national and local business events. Her risk management articles have been published in various trade magazines. In 1995, she was awarded the Quill Pen Award from the Council of Real Estate Brokerage Managers.
She was president of the Oregon Association of Realtors® (OAR) in 1996, and was the only state president honored as “Realtor® of the Year” during the year of presidency. Known for her political activism, Kaplan chaired OAR’s Legislative Committee for four years and is a Golden R Member of
RPAC, the association’s political action committee. She was Oregon’s first recipient of the REALTORS Active in Politics award in 1990.
At the local level, Kaplan was president of the Washington County Association of Realtors® in 1991, and served on its Board of Directors from 1987 through 1993. She also has chaired numerous committees at the local level. She was named “Realtor® of the Year” by her peers in 1992 and received the 1994 “Distinguished Service Award.”
Active in the community as well, Kaplan was involved in the Oregon Fair Housing Planning Conference from 1992 through 1994, and served on two state advisory committees: History of Housing Discrimination in Oregon, and Oregon Comprehensive Housing Affordability Study Group. She has volunteered for the Portland Community College Foundation, the Catlin Gabel School, the Oregon Ballet Theatre, the Oregon Junior Miss Scholarship Program, Campfire Girls, The Nature Conservancy and The World Affairs Council.
She and her husband, Joel, and their two daughters reside in Portland.
